Thought Slim's Porkchop express couldn't get any better? Meet the BBQ Club

Slim's Porkchop Express, the Seel Street favourite famous for its meaty menu, has launched a new late-night dining experience with a difference.

Named 'The BBQ Club,' the new Louisiana-inspired menu launched earlier this year. Diners are discouraged from eating from plates and using cutlery, with food served directly onto the table ( Covered in a disposable tablecloth .)

Owners of the restaurant invited the ECHO down to review the food - and keen volunteers Sophie McCoid, Paul Philbin, Lorna Hughes and Josh Parry were more than willing to test it out.

As a late-night offering, Slim's BBQ Club menu is served Thursday to Sunday 10pm-late.

What's on the menu?

Taking centre-stage at Slim's BBQ Club is the Louisana Crayfish (£16 for kg or £8.50 for half)- whole crayfish served in a spicy stock along with sausage and corn - which is brought to the table in a huge metal tin along with a variety of dips and sauces.

Other highlights include the soft shell crab in spicy batter (£9.50) and the sticky ribs, which are served straight from the greaseproof paper they're cooked in (£9.50 for a full rack, £5 for a half)

There's also a variety of burgers - the BBC classic double and the Three Winds Burger (£8 and £8.50) and the Kornflake Chicken (£19 for 12 pieces, £12 for eight pieces or £7 for four pieces)

Here's what ECHO writers thought..

Paul Philbin

"The owner of Slim's Porkchop Express has clearly walked across their room and pulled the BBQ Club out of the top drawer.
The ribs were out of this world. When ordering barbecue ribs you expect them to be soaked in barbecue sauce like you get from the chippy, but these were different.

"They had a kick to them and the meat was cooked perfectly. You must go and taste them.
I was a huge fan using the table as my plate and I hope this can catch on in the city."

Lorna Hughes

"The chicken and ribs were the undoubted highlights for me. The description of "Kornflake fried chicken" had me fearing I'd be getting a bowl of breakfast cereal on top, but whatever they used (and it's a secret recipe) it was delicious.

"The meat was tender and the topping was tangy and I ate every last bit, with the help of some BBQ sauce. The ribs fell off the bone and again, were perfect topped with an extra helping of rich, smoky BBQ sauce."

Sophie McCoid

"The ribs were incredible, tasty and falling off the bone, the kornflake chicken was also a particular highlight being crispy and tender, while the Louisiana crayfish was a unique concept that I thoroughly enjoyed.

"I'm incredibly particular about mash and was concerned that Slim's offering wouldn't live up to my high expectations, but I was wrong. The mash was creamy and the gravy was literally out of this world. I cannot wait to return!"

Josh Parry

"As someone who was a vegetarian for over eight years - I am sometimes a bit fussy about meat. However the meat at Slim's (and there was tons of the stuff) was cooked to perfection.

"My particular favourite was the soft shell crab, which was served in a perfectly sticky char sui sauce and chopped chillis, which gave it a perfect hot kick.

"I've never seen anything like the Louisana Crayfish at any restaurant, and although they were initially hard to eat, I really enjoyed them and the spicy sausage was delicious."
