The collision between the pedestrian and the fire engine happened at 11.34am at the junction of London Road and Brigstock Road in Thornton Heath.

The woman’s condition is currently unknown, but she was rushed to hospital by the London Air Ambulance.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said a probe has been launched into the circumstances of the crash.

The police were also called to the scene and road closures remain in place.

“At around 11.34am on 26 September, a fire engine was involved in a collision with a pedestrian on London Road in Thornton Heath,” a Brigade spokesperson said.

“The pedestrian was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service and has now been taken to hospital by London’s Air Ambulance.

“The fire engine was responding to an emergency call at the time of the incident. The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation."

A Met Police spokesperson said that they were awaiting an update on the woman’s condition, and that road closures were in place.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officer, two ambulance crews, and a medic in a fast-response car. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We have treated a woman at the scene before taking her to hospital.”
