Thornhill families flocked to the community centre for the annual fireworks show on Saturday night.
The event, organised by the local Rotary Club, was attended by more than 700 people.
The president of Thornhill and District Rotary, Charlene Henderson, said: “We were delighted to have such a good turnout on the night after all the efforts put into creating the event.
“We have also received a fantastic feedback on the evening which makes it all worthwhile.
“It is challenging to organise as if it is too windy it’s unsafe to let off fireworks so we are always keeping our fingers crossed for the weather.
“If it is heavy rain you aren’t going to get the crowd out of their homes. It is also a worry that we aren’t going to have the numbers turn up as the fireworks are a huge expense. We have hosted the fireworks event for many years and intend in carrying on doing so.
“We get a donation from Thornhill Community Council but the majority of the funds to be able to carry out the event comes from the visitors. Our burgers were donated by Thomson’s Foodservice, rolls by Marchbank’s bakers and all efforts are from volunteers.”
