Thornhill car wash raises £650 for The Fire Fighters Charity

A magnificent £650 was raised for The Fire Fighters Charity at a four-hour fundraising car wash in Thornhill.

The town’s fire station was the latest to hold the money-spinner which has attracted widespread support for Dumfries and Galloway fire crews in recent weeks.

The public has been encouraged to bring along their weather-splattered vehicles for crews to clean in return for a donation, with youngsters getting to meet mascot, Welephant.

Another was held at Sanquhar Fire Station on Sunday, and the next one is at Gretna on Saturday, April 29, from 10am to 1pm.

It follows car washes held at the Annan, Castle Douglas, Gatehouse, Langholm, Moffat and Newton Stewart fire stations last month which raised a whopping £3,667 for The Fire Fighters Charity.

There was also a generous £500 community donation from the Bank of Scotland to the Gatehouse station.
