Thor Bjornsson vs Eddie Hall tale of the tape as boxing fight is agreed

Thor Bjornsson and Eddie Hall will finally square off in a historic boxing bout branded the 'heaviest in history'.

Hall and Bjornsson have been preparing to face each other for over a year with their previous fight date cancelled after Hall was forced to withdraw after suffering a detached bicep.

The pair have been long-term rivals since competing in strongman competitions and their verbal jabs became more common after agreeing to settle their differences in the ring.

Bjornsson has made three appearances in the boxing ring to date, against Devon Larratt and in exhibitions against Simon Valily and Stephen Ward.

Both Bjornsson and Hall have lost weight to get into shape with Bjornsson losing around 120lbs to ensure he is ready to compete in boxing.

Here, we examine the profiles of the pair that are set to finally do battle in the ring on March 19...

Thor Bjornsson

Bjornsson is known for his success competing as a strongman in competitions in addition to appearing in hit TV-show Game of Thrones.

The Icelandic star is the first person to have won the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe's Strongest Man and World's Strongest Man within a year and is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished athletes in the sport's history.

He won the European competition every year except 2016 from 2014-19, and has won the Arnold Classic three times in his illustrious career.

Bjornsson, who stands at six feet 9 inches tall, has lost 60kg in a bid to make his appearances in the boxing ring.

He weighed in at a massive 205kg before his journey in the sport began but has now trimmed down to around 155kg as he looks to settle his rivalry with Hall.

After training in the sport for a while, Bjornsson has the advantage of having some ring experience having fought three times during his short career.

The Icelandic star first touched gloves with Steven Ward in an exhibition which was his opening exploit as a boxer.

He later took on Simon Valily in another exhibition which continued his boxing journey and allowed him to learn the powers of recovery after being dropped early on.

Bjornsson then faced 46-year-old arm wrestler Larratt which turned into a complete mismatch with the Icelandic star forcing an early stoppage with his significant size and power advantage.

Bjornsson has continued to train with boxing coach Billy Nelson in Scotland and believes he now has the experience to end his fight with Hall early after his sensational journey.

"I think I'll knock him out in the third or fourth round," Bjornsson proclaimed while speaking with iFL TV about the fight.

"I'm just focused on me, focused on getting as good as possible, and people can make predictions on how they're going to win fights.

"But at the end of the day when you're in the ring things can change very fast and you have to be quick to adjust even though you have a game plan because it might not work.

"I'm putting in a lot of time, a lot of effort, a lot of work and sometimes you don't really see it yourself but I can definitely feel and see it slowly but surely coming together."

Eddie Hall

Hall is a British professional strongman who shot to fame for winning the World's Strongest Man competition in 2017.

He has also been crowned UK and English strongest man on multiple occasions in a hugely successful domestic career.

The 34-year-old has become famous alongside his strongman career featuring in films such as The Expendables 4 and Transformers The Last Knight.

He stands at 6 feet 4 inches tall giving away a small height advantage to his opponent but has equally lost around 40kg to make weight for a boxing debut.

After his incredible weight-loss journey Hall is expected to weigh around 158kg despite admitting to piling some weight back on over Christmas.

Hall previously claimed he has continued to eat around 7,000 calories a day to fuel his training which will now include boxing.

He has also filmed several documentaries on his own journey including Eddie The Strongman, The Strongest Man In History and Eddie Eats Christmas.

With his publicity continuing to grow, Hall also starred in a SPORTBible series Beasted, where he put other men through their paces by using a strict fitness and diet plan to help them reach their own transformation goals.

The Briton also has several friends in the industry and is popular with fans and experts including strongman Martyn Ford who will fight in his own boxing bout in April.

Hall has yet to feature in the boxing ring and was forced to have surgery and delay his maiden appearance against Bjornsson due to suffering a detached bicep.

After continuing training when the recovery is complete, Hall has admitted he is now ready to leave rival Bjornsson "on the floor".

“Not only will this be the heaviest boxing match in history, but it features two immense competitors who have been training intensely to reach peak mental and physical fitness," Hall said via Geezers Boxing.

"“Winning is everything in this once-in-a-lifetime clash. But I know one thing - I want it more and will leave Thor lying on the floor.

“When that bell goes, I won’t be letting anyone down. I’ll be in a zone like no-one has ever seen me in before.”
