Thomas Vinterberg To Adapt The Brothers Lionheart As TV Series

Oscar-winning director Thomas Vinterberg to adapt 'The Brothers Lionheart' for TV.

Oscar-winning director Thomas Vinterberg is set to bring the beloved children's book 'The Brothers Lionheart' to television screens as a limited event series. The fantasy novel, written by Astrid Lindgren, author of Pippi Longstocking, will be adapted by Vinterberg in collaboration with Tony and Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens.

The series will be produced by Media Res, known for projects like 'The Morning Show' and 'Pachinko.' The Astrid Lindgren Company is also involved in the production.

'The Brothers Lionheart' follows the story of two brothers, Karl and Jonathan Lion, as they navigate the mythical land of Nangiyala and face off against the evil tyrant Tengil. While not as widely recognized globally as Pippi Longstocking, the novel has been translated into over 50 languages and is considered a classic in Scandinavia.

Vinterberg expressed his excitement about the project, calling it a significant dream come true to adapt the tale for a new generation. He emphasized the cultural importance of the story, stating that it was a milestone from his childhood that he hopes to pass on to his children.

Media Res, the production company behind the series, has a track record of successful projects, including 'The Morning Show' and 'I'm a Virgo.'

Vinterberg, known for his work on films like 'Another Round' and 'The Hunt,' is currently in post-production on the Danish series 'Families Like Ours.' Development on 'The Brothers Lionheart' is expected to commence later this month.

With a career spanning acclaimed films and now venturing into television, Vinterberg's adaptation of 'The Brothers Lionheart' is eagerly anticipated by fans of the novel and his previous work.

Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses.
