Thomas Tuchel told he has two new Chelsea undroppables as £36m transfer vindicated

Chelsea duo Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva were both named in Harry Redknapp's and Garth Crooks’ team of the week.

Both players were on the score-sheet for the Blues in their 2-0 victory over Tottenham on Sunday.

The win saw Thomas Tuchel’s side close the gap on Manchester City to 10 points after their draw at Southampton, however they have played one more game than the league leaders.

Ziyech opened the scoring against Spurs with a sensational strike from the edge of the box, his second in his last two games after he also netted in the 1-1 draw at Brighton in midweek.

There are signs the Morocco star is starting to hit his best form for the Blues and Redknapp heaped praise on the 28-year-old’s display against Antonio Conte’s side.

“I’m a big fan of Hakim Ziyech," he told Bet Victor.

“He’s more than capable of scoring goals out of the top drawer as we saw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. His movement makes him a huge threat and a nightmare to defend against.”

Despite the fact Crooks named Ziyech in his team, he criticised the Chelsea winger for not celebrating after scoring against Brighton, and also lambasted Tuchel’s side for dropping points against the Seagulls.

“So Chelsea are back in the swing of things after a dismal midweek performance against Brighton," he told the BBC Sport website.

“The Blues looked like a completely different team against Tottenham and played like it.

“Hakim Ziyech scored against Brighton and refused to celebrate. He then scored against Spurs and the whole team celebrated. Going to the Amex Stadium on a dismal January night might not be the most attractive event in the world but it's what they get paid for. Spurs might appear a very glamorous fixture but both games have the same points.

“What a pity Chelsea couldn't summon the effort or have the will to do what a side like Chelsea should have done and knock Brighton out of the park. They beat Spurs but let the game they really should have won slip away.”

Redknapp also hailed 37-year-old Silva, who scored the all important second when he headed in Mason Mount’s free-kick.

He added: “He got the crucial goal that killed the match, and defensively, he was rock solid. He’s been a terrific signing for Chelsea. People talk about his age, but you won’t find much better in that position anywhere in football.”

Crooks was also effusive in his praise, heralding the Brazilian for still having the ability to play at the top level and affect games. However, he also criticised Spurs' defence for being undone by Silva's movement in the box.

“A man of Thiago Silva's age should have retired years ago. The fact that he's still playing top-class football at all is a testimony to his fitness and the way he's looked after himself," said Crooks.

“However, Tottenham defenders should be a little concerned at being out-jumped and out-battled in the penalty area by a player who, in some cases, is more than 10 years their senior. Thiago Silva is a great player but when he arrives in the penalty area physical contact should count for something and, until teams like Tottenham and others realise that, Thiago Silva will continue to outmanoeuvre them.”
