Thomas Tuchel tactical risks gets questioned with Chelsea using a strange and unorthodox system

On Tuesday evening, Thomas Tuchel played a 4-2-2-2 formation in the sides 1-1 draw against Brighton away from home. Injuries have meant that the German has had to adapt and not play his preferred three at the back, which has largely been successful for Chelsea.

Carefree Chelsea's social producer Daniel Child's spoke to Football. London's Josh Williams (JW) on Wednesday afternoon's The Bridge Breakdown show about the new formation and what they think about it.

JW: "I'm not the biggest fan of it to be honest. I think it's quite a strange and unorthodox system. I think it can work. It has been particularly successful in the Bundesliga, for example.

“But, the whole makeup of the Bundesliga is completely different. I think the players in it seem to struggle. We’ve seen it at Manchester United since Rangnick has taken charge.

“In terms of naturally executing the responsibilities. Especially in terms of passing options. It’s quite an odd system. I think initially, he used a back three straight away.

“They stuck with it, and I think that was largely down to the personality at their disposal, and it made the most sense. At present, he’s got a few players out, and they don’t have any specialist wing-backs anymore.

“The results have tailed off a little bit as well. So he’s changed the system. He’s taken a bit of risk in doing that. At the end of the day, the system is for the players and if you’ve got the players to when he was delivering success with Chelsea.

“In terms of injuries and things like that. Maybe it’s a good decision to change. But, in terms of a 4-2-2-2, I’m not sure.”
