Thomas Tuchel felt his Chelsea side "stopped defending" as they shipped four against Brentford at Stamford Bridge.
The west London derby was expected to be a routine home win but instead the relegation-threatened side grabbed a much needed three points. Antonio Rudiger had given the Blues the lead in the second-half before the Bees scored four - including three in the space on ten minutes.
Chelsea have been renowned for their defensive solidity since Tuchel arrived and had only conceded more than twice on one occasion in the Premier League this term. Vitaly Janelt grabbed a brace for Brentford whilst Christian Eriksen also got on the scoresheet.
The Blues remain in third, comfortably clear of the chasing pack, but Tuchel didn't shirk his words when reviewing his team's efforts. He said: “Nobody saw it coming, especially after going 1-0 ahead. It was very untypical of us. But we stopped defending. We were not aware of enough of the danger, were sloppy with the defending and got punished.
"They made the most of it in those 10 minutes. Right after their third goal we had 10 minutes where we had big, big chances and we missed them. They were lucky and clinical enough to get three goals. We did not defend like it is needed to in the Premier League and got punished."
Tuchel's Chelsea have fallen away in the title race in recent months, owing largely to too many draws. The German accused his side of being complacent after taking the lead. He claimed: "Maybe we thought it was already done and we got punished in 10 minutes. In general we allowed too many shots and in general we lacked energy.

"We looked mentally tired which is normal after being around the world. After scoring we forgot we still had 40 minutes to play. I think it was deserved we took the lead." Brentford's win takes them further clear of the relegation zone as they look to consolidate their top flight status.
The Bees are enjoying their first ever season in the Premier League with manager Thomas Frank keen to savour the moment. He said: “I’m not sure how many times a promoted club has gone to an away ground of a top three or four club and then won, it can’t be many, So we have to enjoy this moment, appreciate it, and then move on after that.”
He added on Eriksen: “Every team has 11 players but sometimes you need key players to lift the rest by both playing well and their personality and Christian does that. He is a very good player and I’m pleased he is playing for us.”
