Thomas Tuchel set for Bayern Munich job despite Tottenham interest in ex-Chelsea boss

Former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel is set to return to management by replacing Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich.

The German giants have acted decisively to appoint the Bavarian-born coach after he had been linked with a return to the Premier League with Tottenham.

Spurs had an interest in hiring Tuchel, among others, but made no special effort in recent weeks to bring him to north London as Antonio Conte heads towards the exit door.

They continue to communicate a business-as-usual approach despite widespread reports that Conte’s position is in peril. It follows the Italian’s accusations against the club and his “selfish” players following a 3-3 draw away at Southampton.

For Bayern, they will sack one of football's most expensive managers after poaching Nagelsmann for a then world record-breaking £21million compensation fee from RB Leipzig.

Nagelsmann will depart after a 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen allowed Borussia Dortmund to take top spot in the Bundesliga.

Bayern remain in title contention with nine matches to go, while also being in the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and domestic cup.

Tuchel will face Manchester City in two weeks’ time, where victory could see his new side face Chelsea in the semi-final should they beat Real Madrid.

Chelsea's new Boehly-Clearlake owners sacked Tuchel in September, replacing him with Graham Potter.
