Thomas Tuchel sacked: Statement in full as Chelsea sensationally dismiss manager amid Todd Boehly milestone

Chelsea believe now is the right time to transition to a new managerial era after sensationally sacking Thomas Tuchel.

The German was relieved of his duties in a major shock after a disappointing start to the season hit a new low in Croatia last night, just 100 days into the reign of new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Chelsea parted company with Tuchel just hours after their third loss in seven matches so far this season, a dismal 1-0 defeat away at Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League Group E opener.

The 40-year-old was in charge at Chelsea just 20 months after succeeding club legend Frank Lampard in January 2021, delivering Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup success, as well as two FA Cup final appearances.

However, his tenure has now been abruptly halted, with the Blues believed to be targeting highly-rated Brighton boss Graham Potter as Tuchel’s replacement in west London.

Below is Chelsea’s official statement on the Tuchel sacking in full...

Chelsea statement in full

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

“Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”
