Thomas Tuchel's controversial Chelsea sacking explained amid huge Graham Potter claim

Chelsea co-owner Jonathan Goldstein revealed a lack of 'harmony' between Thomas Tuchel and the Chelsea board. The Blues' new ownership group decided to sack Tuchel last month following Chelsea's 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

Tuchel's sacking came as a surprise given his success during his time at Stamford Bridge, winning the Champions League, a Super Cup, a Club World Cup and reaching back-to-back FA Cup finals and a League Cup final. However, the decision to sack him had been made before the Zagreb defeat, with issues arising between Tuchel and the ownership group during the pre-season tour of America.

After controversially sacking the German head coach, Chelsea quickly moved to appoint Graham Potter, who is unbeaten in his first three games as Blues boss. The Chelsea ownership group showed their faith in the 47-year-old by offering him a five-year deal in west London.

Goldstein, who is co-founder and CEO of Cain International, believes swapping Tuchel for Potter was the right decision and that the former Brighton boss can lead Chelsea to new heights.

"It's a decision we made as a group that we felt was in the best long-term interests of the club," Goldstein told Bloomberg. "Ultimately, you need to ensure there's complete harmony between management & the ownership group. We felt that wasn't right.

"And we are thrilled Graham Potter is now leading. He had a great win in the Champions League just the other night. And we are sure he will take the club onto greater heights."
