Thomas Tuchel reveals Chelsea suffered strange problems in build-up to heavy Leeds defeat

Thomas Tuchel revealed Chelsea had to contend with travel issues in the build-up to their clash with Leeds.

It was a disastrous afternoon for the Blues at Elland Road, as they fell to a 3-0 defeat and had Kalidou Koulibaly sent off late on for a second yellow card as things went from bad to worse.

Edouard Mendy was at fault for the first goal, getting caught on the ball and gifting Brenden Aaronson the chance to stroll over the line with the ball, before Rodrigo and Jack Harrison also got on the scoresheet for the impressive hosts.

Chelsea’s problems were significant on the pitch, but Tuchel outlined after the match that the issues began well ahead of kick-off.

“Everything that can go wrong, did go wrong,” Tuchel told BBC Sport.

“It started yesterday. We had no plane to arrive so we came on the bus. The players could fly but for the coaching staff it was a long ride on the bus. It continued today.”

Raheem Sterling had a big chance to score for Chelsea inside the opening minute of the match, before he had a goal ruled out for offside as the Blues created a number of chances in the early stages.

But they looked vulnerable at the back and had no answer to Leeds’ intensity, with dreadful errors from individuals doing little to help the situation.

“We could have closed the game down in first 20 minutes,” Tuchel said.

“After that it was an even game, then we gave two gifts away. What do you expect if you present two goals to an opponent in the Premier League.

“We given goals away from huge individual errors too often.”
