Thomas Tuchel picks out the Chelsea star he wants first in Bayern Munich raid

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel looks set to target former club Chelsea this summer as he aims to shape his new club in his image. Tuchel replaced Julian Nagelsmann at the German giants last Friday, and has wasted little time in informing his employers of what he needs to succeed in the role.

Having already had a request to bring highly-rated Chelsea coach Anthony Barry with him to the Allianz Arena granted, the German now wants to return to Stamford Bridge to add to his playing staff with another former favourite. Bayern are said to be considering a move for midfielder Mason Mount, whose contract stalemate rumbles on, as the Times reports.

Former Blues boss Tuchel is a keen admirer of Mount, having worked together for a largely-successful 18-month stint which included the 2021 Champions League-winning campaign. The 24-year-old faces an uncertain future in west London, as talks to extend his current deal beyond the summer of 2024 have stalled.

As such, a queue of clubs have seemingly lined up to nab the midfielder on the cheap at the end of this season. Bayern would have to fend off Premier League rivals if they are to grant Tuchel his wish, as Liverpool seemingly lead the race having stepped up their interest over recent weeks.

Mount, who has won player of the season at Chelsea twice since breaking into the first team in 2019 under Frank Lampard, wants a salary to reflect his importance to the squad. The Blues want to tie Mount down to a contract that would run for around seven years, something the player is not so keen on.

A source has told football.london the Reds are seriously interested in the England international and are preparing to make a move for the midfielder in the summer should the situation remain unsolved.

Chelsea will be looking to move some players on after a £600 million splurge in the past two summer transfer windows, coupled with concerns over a potential breach of FFP regulations. In order to balance the books and make sure the squad is not too bloated, Boehly and his team will be earmarking those who are in line for a Stamford Bridge departure.

Indeed, Tuchel could look to take advantage of a potential clearout by moving for players heading for the exit at Chelsea. Other individuals the former Chelsea manager could look at include out-of-favour striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and American international Christian Pulisic, who has seen competition for places drastically increase following the arrivals of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk.
