Thomas Tuchel offers four-word Todd Boehly-Roman Abramovich Chelsea comparison

Thomas Tuchel has described his working relationship with new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly as 'intense', having previously spoken about how previous owner Roman Abramovich operated.

The Blues have kicked off their new dawn with the first signing in the men's team as Raheem Sterling was unveiled in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon after joining his new teammates on their pre-season tour.

football.london understands Chelsea will pay Manchester City an initial fee worth around £45million for Sterling. A further £10m will be due to the Premier League champions if a number of performance-related add-ons are met throughout the 27-year-old's time at Stamford Bridge.

New owner Boehly played a huge part in talks with the Citizens, with it being revealed by a City source themselves describing the part LA Dodgers part-owner as someone who plays “No games, no ego…”

A major difference between the Abramovich and Boehly era has been how hands-on the American is with transfer negotiations right from the off, whilst the Russian oligarch had people in place like Bruce Buck, Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech to deal with the day-to-day running and transfer activities of the club on his behalf.

Under this new regime, it is understood that despite interim sporting director Boehly being the one leading talks for the likes of Presnel Kimpembe, Nathan Ake, Kalidou Koulibaly and others currently, this will change once a full-time sporting director is hired amid Michael Edwards and Paul Mitchell links.

It is understood that manager Tuchel is being given a lot of power to influence transfer decisions currently, something his predecessors didn't have under the Abramovich regime. No wonder he has described this period and his current relationship with Boehly and Clearlake as "very close and intense," as per Sky Sports.

Despite his happiness at what is going on off the field, the former Paris Saint-Germain boss will certainly not forget 'special owner' Abramovich being the person who gave him the opportunity to re-shape his managerial career after Frank Lampard was sacked in 2020-21.

“Is he a special owner? I think, first and most importantly, he’s a football fan, a huge football fan. He is in love with the game, he’s in love with the details, he wants to know everything about what’s going on here in Cobham," Tuchel said of Abramovich in a previous interview, as per The Independent.

“And we keep him posted, because he has such a genuine interest and love for the game. This is the most important and this makes things very special. I have a feeling it’s about this, and for this he wants to be entertained, he wants to be competitive and he wants to have the right attitude on the pitch.

“That is what he has created here, it’s amazing, and we are blessed to enjoy our time here at this club and to keep on progressing, this is what we do.”

Chelsea fans- Could Todd Boehly turn out in the long-term to be a better owner than Roman Abramovich or is that an impossible feat to achieve considering the success under the Russian billionaire? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
