Thomas Tuchel lined up for surprise new job three months after Chelsea sacking

Thomas Tuchel has reportedly made Ghana 's six-man shortlist to become their new boss.

In a surprising development, the ex- Chelsea manager - who was ruthlessly sacked in September following a poor start to the Premier League season - has been tipped to take charge of the Black Stars. The Ghanaian FA are lining up replacements for Otto Addo, who stepped down after his side failed to reach the World Cup knockout rounds.

Despite recently throwing his hat in the ring to succeed Gareth Southgate if the England boss were to step aside in the new year, Tuchel is being eyed by the African giants. Reports from Ghana suggest that the 49-year-old tactician has been named on a shortlist which also includes former Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Houghton.

Houghton, whose father is Ghanaian, has been working as the Black Star's technical advisor for the past 10 months. Another member of the current Ghana setup, the legendary George Boateng, is also believed to be in the running. Ex- Aston Villa and Middlesbrough midfielder Boateng was appointed as Addo's assistant in May, two months after beating Nigeria in a fiery World Cup play-off clash.

Joining the duo who already familiar with the task at hand are Tuchel, now former South Korea manager Paulo Bento, Serbia boss Dragan Stojkovic and Gambia gaffer Tom Saintfiet. It's clear that the German coach would be the most shocking appointment, especially considering his links to the England role should Southgate step down.

A report by the Telegraph last month stated that Tuchel was told to leave the UK by the end of December due to the terms of his post-Brexit visa no longer meeting the criteria. The one-time Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss is believed to be waiting patiently for the right role to return to management, having enjoyed a wave of success at Stamford Bridge.

Have your say! Would Ghana be a smart move for Tuchel? Give us your verdict in the comments section.

Tuchel sensationally guided the Blues to Champions League glory within five months of his arrival in January 2021 after replacing Frank Lampard, as well as reaching three domestic cup finals during his 19-month reign. But that came to an abrupt end after steering Chelsea through the most turbulent period of their modern history, as Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the club this spring.

New owner Todd Boehly and Tuchel soon found themselves butting heads behind the scenes, spelling the end of the latter's rollercoaster tenure and the appointment of Graham Potter. Shortly after leaving his west London post, Tuchel was spotted in India and it emerged that he was there to undergo ayurvedic rejuvenation therapy, a form of therapy which aims to revitalise the body.

Taking the Ghana job would certainly freshen up his career.
