Thomas Tuchel interested in Tottenham job if Antonio Conte leaves despite Chelsea affection

Thomas Tuchel would be interested in the Tottenham job if Antonio Conte leaves the club in the coming months, despite his Chelsea connection.

Conte's position has come under scrutiny following a poor run of performances and results, including Sunday's defeat to Arsenal, which left Spurs 14 points adrift of the League leaders.

The Italian has consistently refused to commit to Spurs beyond the end of the season, when his contract expires, but the club have an option to trigger a 12-month extension to his deal.

Tuchel is out of work after being sacked by Chelsea in September last year, and is currently enjoying a break from football. But he is now ready to return to the game and prepared to listen to proposals from leading clubs.

He would be open to an offer from Spurs, although the German is understood to not currently be in contact with any potential suitors.

Tuchel enjoyed living in London and was interested in the England job before Gareth Southgate agreed to stay on until after the next European Championship in 2024.

The 49-year-old is understood to be learning Spanish, suggesting he would also be interested in a top job in La Liga.

Tuchel's long-time assistants Zsolt Low and Arno Michels would be free to join him at a new club, but his former analyst Benjamin Weber is now the sporting director at SC Paderborn.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain head coach led Chelsea to the Champions League title in 2021 and remains popular at Stamford Bridge, with Blues fans chanting his name during the recent defeat to Manchester City.

Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, has previously hired four former Chelsea bosses in Glenn Hoddle, Andre Villas-Boas, Jose Mourinho and Conte.

Former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino would also likely be a contender for the role should Conte's position become available in the summer or before.

The Argentine is out of work after leaving Paris Saint-Germain last July and has remained on amicable terms with Levy, with whom he is still in touch.

Pochettino has previously said he will return to Spurs one day to finish what he started and wants his next job to be at a top club, ideally from England or Spain and playing in the Champions League. The 50-year-old still splits his time between London and Barcelona.
