Thomas Tuchel has to consider key to unlock Timo Werner ahead of Chelsea summer transfer window

Thomas Tuchel is yet to settle on his best front three at Chelsea. The last season that I can remember a reoccurring front three was when Willian, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa were all together in 2017. Five years on and the Blues still haven't quite replicated that form of reliability.

Despite having a rocky season, there could be a case for Timo Werner to have a certified place in Tuchel's starting XI. The German has only scored three Premier League goals all season, but his impact seems to be growing on a weekly basis. Of course, all great players need the have the right people beside them. So who should Werner be playing with? Will this be enough to turn his season around? And most importantly, should Tuchel keep him this summer?

Chelsea's best front three

Following the bittersweet exit in the Champions League against Real Madrid, fans have pondered on who Tuchel should be relying upon going forward. Werner, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount were the selected attackers to start the match and their performance gave the fans a lot to think about.

The trio have not had the chance to play together often this season, especially due to the lack of starts for Werner. Tuchel has rarely relied on the German who has only made 16 starts this season. His last two starts were against Southampton and Real Madrid where he scored three goals, helping Mount and Havertz on to the scoresheet also. They seem to have this undeniable chemistry when playing together. Looking back to the Champions League semi-final and final last season, it's actually a wonder as to why the Chelsea boss hasn't started these three attackers together more often.

I guess the introduction of Romelu Lukaku may have distorted the balance. Especially considering his promising start to the season.

Can Timo Werner turn it around?

It's never too late to turn things around in a Chelsea shirt. Havertz and Hakim Ziyech are of a living testament to this. They have both turned their seasons around from January and have gained the trust of Tuchel. Ziyech went from being a transfer target to the left-footed necessity/game changer. It's strange how quickly his perception from the fans changed.

Havertz has perhaps always been a Chelsea favourite. His goal in the Champions League final cemented his name in the history books. Right now he is the only undroppable forward in the Chelsea squad and if Werner could make to be the right partner for him, I can only see the rest of the season getting better.

Should Thomas Tuchel sell?

If you had asked me at the turn of the year if Werner should leave Chelsea, I would have said yes. I believe that there is talent there and he is still that menacing striker that we saw at RB Leipzig but the Premier League wasn't so kind to him. The Bundesliga is technically a better fit.

However, my opinion on him has changed as many times as Tuchel rotated his front three. I'm never entirely convinced to keep or sell him. it's a weird situation for the Chelsea manager to be in. Can he rely on Werner? Can Werner show a level of consistency that forces Tuchel to keep him? We will have to see.

If he can maintain a level of consistency and Tuchel allows the trio with Havertz and Mount to blossom, I can guarantee that we'd opt-in to keep him. His form with Germany shows that he still has that clinical eye for goal.

What do you think?

Is Chelsea's best attacking lineup Havertz, Mount and Werner? Do you think Timo Werner can turn his season around? Should Thomas Tuchel sell him this summer? Tell us what you think in the comments.
