Thomas Tuchel has magic Chelsea trio to ensure Kai Havertz breaks Premier League record

Slowly but surely, Thomas Tuchel might be uncovering a more reliable attack.

These are baby steps, and one should act with caution over getting too hasty about single performances because, as we have seen consistently this season, those can be followed by turgid outings.

However, the return of Reece James has quickly reinstalled a sense of expression and creativity in Chelsea's play, and ahead of Thursday night's trip to Carrow Road, Tuchel has some good problems to solve.

The second-half display at Burnley would have done wonders for the confidence of Kai Havertz, netting his first goal in the league since November against the same opposition. He quickly followed it with another from close range to double his entire total for the season.

Those strikes now put the German on the brink of bettering his league tally for the entirety of last season, only reaching four in 27 appearances.

Havertz has been one of many attackers at Stamford Bridge this season to come under scrutiny for their lack of productivity, but now with three goals from his last three appearances, the tide appears to be turning.

For the 22-year-old to maintain his spot as Tuchel's main striker over Romelu Lukaku, that run needs to continue against a Norwich side, quickly sinking back to The Championship.

Chelsea hit seven without reply the last times the two met in October, with Mason Mount getting a hat-trick. Although a repeat is unlikely, another convincing win on the road would only solidify the belief Chelsea's place in the top four is secure.

Behind Havertz is where most intrigue lies, particularly who can offer him the best service.

Mason Mount has been a constant name among Tuchel's teamsheet, but his influence has waned in recent weeks, and given the trip to Norwich will be followed by a clash with Newcastle at home three days later, rotation is guaranteed.

A trio who have combined well with Havertz recently and since the start of the season feels the obvious route here.

First is Reece James, the man of the match last Saturday. He scored the first and assisted the third. The wing-back's brilliantly worked goal means that no other defender in Europe's top five leagues has scored or assisted more than him.

His creative numbers of a goal contribution every 0.84 minutes reflect his overwhelming importance to this team. James has set up three of Havertz's four league goals.

Secondly is Hakim Ziyech, although missing two of the last three through injury, the Moroccan's recent league form has been highly impressive – netting in his previous three against Brighton, Spurs and Crystal Palace.

The goals have been crucial, but his ability to pick out a man with his left foot is equally impressive. Ziyech has assisted two of Havertz's goals this season against Southampton and Lille from corners.

Lastly is Christian Pulisic, recently finding form in his favoured left-wing role again, netting Chelsea's fourth at Burnley and beautifully carving out a cross for Havertz to nod in. The American is rapidly strengthening his role in Tuchel's attacking lineup, scoring against Lille in the Champions League a fortnight ago.

For recent months a lot of negativity has surrounded the lack of output from Tuchel's cast of attackers, and fairly so, but the last couple of games have shown signs of light to build upon. We hope.
