Thomas Tuchel hands three Chelsea stars brutal transfer message with key Everton decision

Thomas Tuchel has handed members of his Chelsea squad a key transfer update with his chosen line-up to face Everton.

New signings Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly both made their competitive Chelsea debut and Marc Cucurella earned a spot on the bench just one day after signing.

There was also room for Ben Chilwell as he staked a claim in Tuchel's first team plans despite looking under-prepared during pre-season.

For all of the new incomings there were also a set of important decisions that have handed players a key message. Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Emerson, Marcos Alonso, Ethan Ampadu, Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi, Kennedy and Malang Sarr all missed out on the matchday squad with all of their futures still up in the air.

The Blues are looking to cash in on their underperforming senior players and have seen Werner, Sarr and Alonso all near departures from Stamford Bridge, with the remaining players not likely to be involved at all for the new season and exits in the final weeks of the window all being discussed.

In typical brutal fashion for Tuchel, who fielded questions over his decision to take most of that exiled group to America for pre-season, there is no hiding the players that aren't in his plans.

Werner, who football.london understands is in talks for RB Leipzig over a move back to Germany after scoring just 10 goals in two seasons, has had a strained relationship with Tuchel in recent months and the forward admitted earlier in the window that he "could be happy anywhere" with his boss biting back about the comment.

The 26-year-old is the second highest earner at Stamford Bridge and might have to settle with a loan move this summer.

Elsewhere, Alonso is now closing on his own move away from Chelsea with Barcelona keen on him. The Spaniard is expected to leave SW6 after five years in London. He is currently the second top-scorer for the club but is behind Chilwell and Cucurella in the pecking order at wingback. Sport report that the player asked to be left out of the group.

The other key omission is that Hudson-Odoi, who football.london understands travelled with the squad to Merseyside, missed out. The Englishman is one of the players being discussed in a move to Leicester City as Tuchel tries to bring in Wesley Fofana to strengthen his backline.
