Thomas Tuchel escapes Roman Abramovich red flags as Chelsea announce Todd Boehly consortium

There is an asterisk around this season and the question is: would Thomas Tuchel have survived Roman Abramovich? Some fans have suggested that the German is actually lucky that the Russian oligarch was sanctioned before witnessing an underwhelming end to the season.

Thomas Tuchel has a Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup to his name since joining the Blues in January last year. It's absolutely ludicrous to even think about sacking him. It just wouldn't make sense. However, there are many sackings that Chelsea managers have endured that did not make sense. Tuchel can put his trophies on the table but Abramovich could still make the observation that Chelsea's seasonal objectives have not necessarily been met.

Chelsea enter a new era where Todd Boehly could change the status quo. Tuchel could be Chelsea's manager for a long time to come, yet.

For the record, I would be furious at the thought of Thomas Tuchel leaving the club. I envision him as a Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp for Chelsea. It's actually fortunate that he had been given enough downtime to really assess the team without the pressure of being sacked from up top.

Of course, his future remains uncertain even with new ownership confirmation; however, I doubt that Todd Boehly would have any issues with these red flags. Judging by the reported £200million green light to rebuild this Chelsea side from Boehly himself, Tuchel has little to worry about at the moment.

Thomas Tuchel suffered yet another Wembley loss earlier this month, with Chelsea falling short once again. If there is one thing that Roman Abramovich hates, it's losing; getting to a final is not enough for the Russian. Last season, Chelsea fell short to Leicester in the FA Cup final, earlier this year, they lost to Liverpool on penalties in the Carabao Cup, and they failed in another Wembley final against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

The Blues started off the season as favourites to win the Premier League. Piggybacking from their Champions League success, it was only right to hope they could maintain the momentum and bring home the league title. It was always going to be a tough task with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool as competition, but it was definitely something that the Blues were capable of attaining.

There are some decisions that will probably haunt the Chelsea boss. The main one would probably be, what if he took off Ben Chilwell one minute before the challenge that took him out of the season against Juventus back in November. The injury arguably tipped our season on its head as the team became extremely unbalanced.

The flow was disrupted within the squad, but it's not an excuse for the gap created between us and Liverpool and Manchester City. We ended the season 18 points behind Liverpool and just three points in front of Tottenham. Abramovich would be asking: how on Earth have we got here?

It's a harsh reality, but this season has not actually been a good one for the Blues. In hindsight, it's been pretty bad. We've let multiple results slip and we now find ourselves trying to survive a top four battle. Luckily, the fans see a vision and have taken such a strong liking to Thomas Tuchel. He has won over many of our hearts. Despite the ambiguity left behind by Abramovich's departure, it's sort of a blessing in disguise. Tuchel will have more time to plan another season at Chelsea and hopefully, his vision will be fulfilled.
