Thomas Tuchel has been reassured that Tino Anjorin will excel on loan at Huddersfield Town as Chelsea plots a future for the Cobham graduate at Stamford Bridge.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Lokomotiv Moscow, having been persuaded to join the club in the summer by then-head of football operations Ralf Rangnick.
A £17m option-to-buy was ultimately included in the England youth international's loan deal as well as a £34m buy-back clause, meaning the Blues hold a silver lining in Anjorin's deal, subject to his agreement, as per The Athletic.
However, the combination of an injury and Manchester United's appointment of the German spelt the end of Anjorin's time in Russia, bringing him back to west London.
As Anjorin began to near match fitness in January, he became subject to interest from Southampton over a permanent move, but that interest came too late in the window to get a deal over the line, football.london's Adam Newson exclusively revealed.
Instead, the Cobham graduate secured a loan move to the Championship, joining forces with fellow Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill at Huddersfield Town.
Daniel Childs spoke to Yorkshire Live's Huddersfield Town writer Steven Chicken on the Carefree Chelsea 'Talking Transfers' show to delve into how Anjorin's loan to Huddersfield Town stands the youngster in good stead for first-team opportunities under Tuchel next season.
Chicken kickstarted the discussion by explaining how the Cobham graduate deal came about and why the Terriers' system will benefit Anjorin, just like it once did with Emile Smith Rowe, Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah.
"They were looking for a player who fits his profile - a very creative who can play in the final third," he said.
"Carlos Corberán has played this season with a three-four-three, but it's more of a three-four-two-one at times where you have two number tens, almost like a hybrid winger number ten role which will be quite familiar to Chelsea fans.
"The three-four-three was almost stumbled upon by accident this season - Carlo suddenly had two players capable of playing that hybrid role, so I think they wanted an extra option to bring into the squad and add a bit of quality."
Chicken added by detailing how Levi Colwill's summer arrival on loan from Chelsea has been a catalyst for the Terriers' promotion charge and how that has fuelled Huddersfield's ambition to bring Anjorin in.
"A lot of fans, and certainly I, expected a relegation battle this season - that is what we've had the last two seasons," he said.
"But, they've had an excellent summer recruiting - Levi Colwill obviously is a big part of that - and they're pushing for the play-offs.
"I think they wanted to make a bit of an ambitious signing to help push for that playoff spot because if they were comfortable with mid-table, I doubt that they would've gone for Tino Anjorin."
