Thomas Rhett has teased his upcoming seventh studio album, calling it “hands down my favourite music that I’ve gotten to work on”.
The US country music star, 32, says he’s currently in the “whittling down phase” of the record with some 100 to 150 songs to choose from and is hoping to put out the finished product either by the end of the year or early 2024.
Speaking to the Standard ahead of his headline slot at C2C: Country to Country on Friday, he said: “I’ve been working really diligently to understand what kind of record we’re making and making sure it’s cohesive but also like, un-cohesively cohesive and doesn’t sound like anything we’ve ever done.
“I’m really excited about the batch of music that we have coming, I think it is hands down my favourite music that I’ve gotten to work on and I’m looking forward to it.”
A collaboration with The Shires could be on the cards, with Rhett describing the UK country music duo’s work as “awesome”.
Rhett - who recently released single Simple As A Song from latest album Where We Started - said: “There have been a couple of opportunities for me to write with The Shires and they come to Nashville quite a bit and we’re obviously in London quite a bit, but we haven’t been able to lock down a date, but I really look forward to the time I get to sit down with them as their music is awesome. The next time that they are in Nashville I think we’re going to try and get together and write a few days.”
