Arsenal need to add to the midfield department in the January transfer window. Despite a strong starting pivot in the middle of the park, there is a lack of quality in depth to boost Mikel Arteta’s options.
Youri Tielemans was thought to be the main target to bolster the Arsenal midfield. However, Arsenal have hesitated over a deal in the past, which was proven when Edu opted against signing him in the summer.
If Edu does opt against signing Tielemans in January, then it is crucial that an alternative is signed. A potential option for the Gunners is to hijack Liverpool’s potential for Mohammed Kudus from Ajax, and Edu use Thomas Partey as a key negotiation tool.

According to Sports World Ghana Liverpool had scouts at Ghana’s opening 3-2 defeat to Portugal, in which Kudus, marked his debut at the tournament with an assist. The report goes on to claim that The Reds could potentially make a January move for the midfielder.
This comes after Arsenal legend Thierry Henry praised Kudus after his Champions League performance against Liverpool earlier in the season. "He [Mohammed Kudus] came from the Academy Right to Dream from Ghana and he is living his dream," Henry said on CBS Sports.
Albert Sambi Lokonga and Mohammed Elneny, and Fabio Vieira are the three rotational options for Arsenal in the midfield. but their quality do not compare with the current starters under Arteta..
Kudus would be able to bridge the quality gap, and a deal could be easier to complete as Arsenal can use Partey as a transfer agent while he is away with Kudus on international duty with Ghana.
Edu has been successful in using this tactic before, which was highlighted when Arsenal signed Aaron Ramsdale ahead of the 2021/2022 season. And the supporters have Bukayo Saka to thank for this transfer as Ramsdale has labelled the youngster 'Agent Saka'.
When speaking about how Saka helped with his move to the Gunners on the FA YouTube channel, Ramsdale said: "Agent Saka, that’s what he says. He also said the manager[Mikel Arteta] spoke to him a couple of times about me and thankfully he gave a good review."
Saka and Ramsdale were teammates before meeting at club level as they were both called for England in the summer ahead of the 2020 European Championships. Arsenal could follow a similar pattern with Partey, in order to help the Gunners hijack Liverpool’s ideal January transfer.
