Arsenal fans were overjoyed when the club added Thomas Partey to their ranks 16 months ago.
During his time with Atletico Madrid, Partey had established himself as one of Europe's most reliable midfielders, producing for Diego Simeone's men domestically, as well as in Europe.
His man of the match display against Liverpool in the Champions League back in 2020 was particularly impressive as he showcased the rare ability to combine progressive, line-breaking passing with exceptional defensive awareness and intelligent reading of the game.
Still, fast forward almost two years and the Ghana international has struggled to make the same kind of impression at the Emirates Stadium.
There have undoubtedly been flashes of brilliance, with Manchester United icon Roy Keane lauding the 28-year-old for his display during Arsenal's 1-0 win against at Old Trafford. last season
When speaking for Sky Sports about Partey's, Keane said: "Brilliant. I thought he was outstanding.
"We said before the game, this guy is no mug. He has come from a big club, he has played in big competitions. When you watch a player live, that is when you can judge a player.
"And the more I look at him, the more I wish he was in Manchester United’s midfield. Big, strong, aggressive.
"I had my battles with Patrick Vieira, I think this kid has got a chance of matching when Vieira used to do. Because he is strong, aggressive and he likes to pass it forward.
"He looks comfortable on the ball. His composure, a good first touch... and maintaining possession, that is the name of the game."
The Gunners will need the experienced midfielder to find similar form that he showed that day during the remainder of the campaign as the north Londoners look to finish in the top four for the first time since 2016.
Mikel Arteta's side currently sit two points behind fourth-placed United, having played one game less than Keane's old club.
