Thomas Partey leaves Ghana camp early as Arsenal star suffers injury blow on international duty

Thomas Partey is a doubt for Arsenal’s crucial match against Tottenham next weekend after Ghana confirmed the midfielder’s early exit from their national team camp.

A knee problem kept him out of a defeat to Brazil ahead of the weekend and he will also miss Tuesday’s clash with Nicaragua.

A statement read: “Thomas Partey has been granted permission to travel back to London for further assessment after picking up a suspected knee injury on Friday minutes before the international friendly against Brazil.

“The 29-year-old was set to start for the Black Stars but just a few minutes before kick-off, was forced to withdraw after picking up a knock.

“The 29-year old was withdrawn as a precautionary measure and replaced by RCD Mallorca midfielder Baba Idrissu.”

Meanwhile, Partey’s Arsenal teammate Martin Odegaard started in Norway’s defeat to Slovenia after injury concerns for the Gunners captain.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is returning to London Colney early after international duty.

The defender started and played 90 minutes for Japan in their 2-0 friendly victory over the United States in Dusseldorf, a match which Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic missed after sustaining an injury in training.

Hajime Moriyasu’s men have another game against Ecuador in Germany on Tuesday, but Tomiyasu won’t play and has now gone back to Arsenal due to what was listed as “club circumstances”.
