Thomas Partey issues apology to Arsenal fans after red card disaster vs Liverpool

Thomas Partey has sent a groveling apology to the Arsenal fans after his bonkers red card against Liverpool on Thursday night in the second leg of the Carabao Cup.

With the game already lost, the Ghana international flew into a challenge with his studs up on Fabinho already on a yellow card.

It gave referee Martin Atkinson no choice but to send him off to continue Arsenal ’s terrible indiscipline under Mikel Arteta.

Liverpool were already two up at the Emirates before the incident following a delightful double from Diogo Jota.

Partey had only flown back to the United Kingdom earlier that day before being named on the bench by Arteta after Ghana were knocked out of the AFCON in the group stage.

Arteta sent the midfielder on with 15 minutes to go but the 28-year-old picked up two ridiculous yellow cards within three minutes of each other.

And the former Atletico Madrid star has since apologised to fans with the player now set to miss Arsenal’s next match against Burnley.

He wrote on Instagram : “Am responsible for anything that happened and will take all the critiques, I should be more intelligent not to get in a challenge already booked but this is my personality I like to fight for every ball.

“I love this club and I love my country even though things sometimes don’t happen how I wanted, I would continue to work harder and make things right.

“I came back with the mentality to make myself available for team to get to the final. But it did not happen as planned.

“I will continue to give my all when am on the field of play because this is my life and this is what I chose to do.

“Am not happy with all that happened yesterday and at the AFCON but I understand only with hard work things will change so I will continue to work hard to change this. Thanks.”

Partey’s red card was the 14th sending-off under Arteta’s stewardship - more than any other side with Southampton the next most with eight.

With Granit Xhaka already missing, the Gunners coach will be missing two important midfielders ahead of Burnley this Sunday.

After so much promise, this has been a disastrous month for Arsenal - who were concentrating on the cup competitions with no European football this season.

But they have been knocked out of both in the space of a fortnight after a third-round shock in the FA Cup to Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.

It means Arteta must now land a top-four spot to salvage the season amid a real dogfight with Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham.
