Thomas Frank labels Man United as ‘unbelievably lucky’ after Brentford ‘destroyed’ Ralf Rangnick’s side

Thomas Frank says Manchester United were "unbelievably lucky" to come away with all three points against Brentford and claims his Bees side "destroyed" the Red Devils in the first half.

Brentford midfielder Mathias Jensen spurned two golden chances in the first half with timid finishes at David De Gea and found the United goalkeeper’s gloves again on the break shortly after the interval.

Ralf Rangnick’s side went on to make their hosts pay for their profligacy as Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford all struck before Ivan Toney grabbed a consolation goal for the Bees - who had dominated before the break.

"Unbelievably proud of my team," said Frank.

"We are the smallest club in the Premier League, Manchester United the biggest. We destroyed them in the first half, they didn’t have a sniff, three huge chances and there could only have been one winner of this game. They are unbelievably lucky. I know all the stuff about taking chances. They changed the system against little Brentford.

"One of those nights, fair play to David de Gea, if we get those chances again one will go in the back of the net. Our intensity killed them, we showed that in the first half, we played the Brentford way.

"Of the three goals, the second is most disappointing and difficult to come back from. The way we smashed them in the first half was fantastic, so proud of my team."
