Thomas Frank delivers Ivan Toney update as Brentford striker stretchered off against West Ham

Worry: Ivan Toney went off injured against West Ham

Brentford will wait to assess Ivan Toney after he was stretchered off in Friday’s victory over West Ham, with Thomas Frank hoping the star forward’s knee injury is not as serious as feared.

Toney opened the scoring in the 2-0 victory over David Moyes’ struggling Hammers at the London Stadium, taking his Premier League goal tally to 12 for the season.

However, the forward ended the night leaving the field on a stretcher after appearing to jar his knee on landing after an aerial collision in the final minute.

The 26-year-old looked in considerable pain and Bees fans will be fearing the worst but Frank said it is too early to asses the extent of the problem.

“Hopefully he’s good,” Frank said. “Happy for the three points and another goal added to his goal tally.

“I don’t know exactly how he’ll be for the game against Liverpool in three days’ time. It’s not likely that Ivan is subbed off because of a knock or anything so that’s a little bit worrying.

“But I’ve also been long enough in the game to know that we need to assess him in the next two days. It could be nothing, it could be a little worse, we don’t know.

“It’s never a good sign [when a player is stretchered off] but we don’t know enough about it.”

Toney is also the subject of an ongoing FA investigation over alleged betting breaches and, if found guilty, could face a ban
