Thomas Cashman charged with the murder of Olivia Pratt-Korbel

A 34-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

Merseyside Police tonight confirmed they have charged Thomas Cashman, 34, from Grenadier Drive, West Derby, with Olivia's murder. Olivia, nine, was shot dead after a gunman allegedly forced his way into her home in Kingsheath Avenue, Dovecot, while chasing convicted burglar Joseph Nee on August 22.

The gunman fired a shot from a .38 caliber revolver inside Olivia's home after Joseph Nee ran inside in a bid to escape, killing Olivia and wounding her mum, Cheryl. Cashman has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder in relation to Cheryl Korbel and Joseph Nee, and two counts of possession of a firearms with intent to endanger life.

He was arrested on Thursday, September 29, and taken into custody for questioning. Paul Russell, 40, from Snowberry Road, West Derby, has also been charged with assisting an offender. Both men will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 3.

Merseyside Police gave the latest update on the investigation into Olivia's murder at a briefing from their Rose Hill headquarters, in Cazneau Street, on Saturday evening.
