With yesterday’s hiring of new head coach Dave Canales, Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown may soon be losing the “Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator” part of his title. So, he’ll probably try to continue to get it from somewhere else.
According to CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones, Brown has interviewed with the New England Patriots for their vacancy. The 37-year-old has also interviewed for the offensive-coordinator openings in Chicago and Pittsburgh as well as for the head-coaching job in Tennessee.
Although he was hired as the offensive coordinator for the Panthers last offseason, Brown did not begin the campaign as the unit’s play-caller. That duty initially belonged to former head coach Frank Reich, who handed the sheet over to Brown after six weeks and then reclaimed them just three games later.
Following Reich’s firing after the team’s Week 12 loss to the Titans, Brown was given control of the offense for the remaining six games of the season. The Panthers finished with an average of 265.3 yards per game, the fewest in the NFL.
