Rhasidat Adeleke breaks Irish record as Thomas Barr through to 400m hurdles semi-finals

Rhasidat Adeleke broke the 400 m Irish record with a blistering final performance at the European Championships.

The 19-year-old is among the hottest names in Irish athletics and announced herself on the world stage with a stunning final performance.

Adeleke went out in lane number one and the sprinter made serious ground coming into the turn,

And with a little over 70 metres to go she found herself in fourth place and pushing for medal contention.

It wasn't to be just yet for the talented athlete as she finished in fifth but set an Irish record of 50.53.

Thomas Barr is through to the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles after winning his heat at the European Athletics Championships on Wednesday morning.

The Waterford native was drawn on the inside lane and was first over the hurdles throughout the race.

Ramsey Angela of the Netherlands pushed Barr for the lead down the home straight, but the Irishman came home in first place after his quick finish.

Barr clocked a time of 49.49secs, which was the fourth fastest of the four morning heats.

France's Victor Coroller clocked the quickestm with a time of 49.35secs to win the opening heat.

The semi-finals take place on Thursday morning in Munich.
