Nottingham has many well-known Wetherspoon pubs in the city but have you ever wondered what it’s like in one of the lowest ranked pubs in the popular chain? According to TripAdvisor, the William Peverel in Bulwell is one of the lowest rated pubs in the city so community reporter Keimae Blake went out to see if it was as drab as the reviews make out…
I arrived at around 9.30am on a cloudy Thursday morning. I had never been to the William Peverel before but I must say, I’ll definitely go back again.
One of the negative reviews on TripAdvisor had said this about the William Perevel: "It pains me to give this place 1 star as when it first opened it was the best Wetherspoon in Nottingham. I have had many lovely meals here but sadly it has really deteriorated.
"We have visited 4 times this month with my Granddaughter and each time the place is just so dirty.” However, when I arrived the pub was faultlessly clean.
As I sat down, I spotted many pints of Guinness and Carling. Whether people were sat by themselves or had company, people seemed to be happy as ever - with many families enjoying the Easter Holidays with some Wetherspoon grub.
I ordered a breakfast wrap at the bar and a hot chocolate. The breakfast wraps cost £3.65. Inside is sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown and cheddar cheese.
When at the bar, I noticed that many of the staff knew people by name and their customers seemed to love them too. When making my £1.20 hot chocolate, the machine had a minor malfunction but a lovely member of staff came and sorted me out.
There’s one thing about Wetherspoons and that’s you can’t fault their food. Personally, I think it’s great and I had no complaints whatsoever with my breakfast.
As I sat down and observed, staff packed away empty tables. On the table next to me, three gentlemen chatted away and gave his friend a free copy of today’s paper.
For me when going anywhere, the standards of hygiene and the friendly staff are just as important as the quality of the food so next, I took a peek into the ladies toilets which were absolutely spotless.
To say that this was one of the worst rated Wetherspoons, by time I was leaving, lots of people were coming in. I’d definitely go back, I’d rate my overall experience a 9/10.
