There's overkill and then there's this.
I mean, who doesn't love a bit of scorched Earth, but when we're talking about hitting 200mph across ice, snow, and whatever else comes in winter, that's like throwing a nuke at a spider who just walked into your house. It's a bit much.
But at the same time, I love the ingenuity of whatever you want to call this thing. Is it a dragster? A snowmodragster? Snowmaggedon? Whatever you want to label it, it's essentially a top-fuel dragster converted into a snowmobile. With a V8. And a supercharger.
Oh yeah, that'd be a fun way to die.
According to Silodrome, the snowmobile dragster was built using a 5.7-liter V8 engine, likely a Chevy LS, and features a B&M supercharger, two Holley carbs, and Zoomie headers. The chassis is from Mike Bos Chassis Craft, but was modified by Dave Klock to handle the tracks at the back so the dragster could run on ice and snow, and even sometimes grass.
There's a 2-speed Powerglide transmission hooked up to the supercharged V8, while power is sent to the tracks via a 9-inch rear and chain sprockets. The bodywork, as you'd expect, remains fiberglass for lightweighting, though those tracks likely add a significant amount to the overall machine. Speaking of, there are twin rear tracks sourced from Polaris snowmobiles, but modified for this specific application. And apparently it has disc brakes with Wilwood calipers to stop the whole thing after hitting 200mph. That's good, since I didn't see a chute.
Steering is handled, albiet minutely, by twin snowmobile-style skis at the front with pushrod suspension featuring diagonal ladder bars, tubular arms, and spherical bushings.
The snowmobile dragster (snagster?) is currently residing in New York, with the listing occurring on Bring a Trailer and you'll get a bill of sale as, it's not exactly street legal. Though I'm not sure you could even take it onto a trail either. That said, would you want to? As for price, the current bid is $5,500 with another day to go, which ain't bad given you'd have to spend three to four times that to get one of the latest and greatest go-fast sleds.
If you're interested in getting yourself a snowmobile dragster (dragmobile?), head on over to Bring a Trailer and put a bid in today!
