This Red-Hot Quantum Computing Stock Trades for Less Than $1. Is It a Buy Now?

The cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve rapidly, driven by tailwinds such as global digital transformation and the exponential rise in the number of connected devices. Quantum eMotion (QNCCF), valued at roughly $117 million by market capitalization, has emerged as an intriguing player in the quantum computing and cybersecurity space with its focus on cryptographic solutions powered by quantum random number generators.

While most quantum computing companies concentrate on building quantum computers, the Montreal-based firm has carved out a niche developing security solutions for the financial, military, and telecommunications sectors.

Shares of QNCCF stock are up 1,500% over the past 52 weeks, although they are down 42% in the year to date

With the stock trading under $1, investors are curious whether the Canadian company is a good buy at current valuations.

Is This Quantum Computing Stock a Good Buy?

Quantum eMotion specializes in developing quantum random number generators (QRNGs) for advanced cybersecurity applications. Its focus is on current data protection and future quantum-safe algorithms. Its core technology leverages electron tunneling, a quantum phenomenon in which electrons pass through barriers to generate random numbers for encryption.

The approach utilizes quantum mechanics’ inherent unpredictability to create randomness. This process is crucial for secure encryption, eliminating any patterns attackers might exploit.

The company’s intellectual property portfolio includes four U.S. patents and six patents across 11 other countries, with five additional patents pending. Quantum eMotion has demonstrated its technology’s viability through two functional prototypes developed in partnership with École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) and Université de Sherbrooke.

Quantum eMotion’s quantum random number generator (QRNG) technology targets multiple sectors. In cybersecurity, high-throughput QRNGs create random encryption keys to protect against data breaches.

QRNGs secure patient data for healthcare clients and enable compliant communication between providers. In the communications sector, QRNGs protect sensitive data transmission and infrastructure. The company also is targeting the blockchain and cryptocurrency markets, generating keys for wallet encryption, transaction verification, and smart contract security.

QNCCF Stock Is a High-Risk Investment

Quantum eMotion recently addressed and dismissed defamatory claims made by Terranova Defence Solutions about its quantum-based security platform. The company’s CEO, Francis Bellido, emphasized the quality of Quantum eMotion’s QRNG2 technology, which Bellido says was developed by quantum physicist Bertrand Reulet and meets National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards. Terranova, which had partnered with Quantum eMotion, questioned the quality and performance of its tech in a now-deleted post

In its defense, Quantum eMotion also said that it has collaborated with International Business Machine’s (IBM) Qiskit platform through the Platform for Digital and Quantum Innovation. The partnership will test the security platform’s resilience against quantum computer attacks.

However, Quantum eMotion is a pre-revenue company that has reported an operating loss of 1.8 million Canadian dollars in the nine months through Sept. 30, 2024. With less than $300,000 in balance sheet cash, the company warns that its working capital of $174,369 may not last through the next 12 months. As a result, it raised a “going concern” warning.

Investors should also note that there are no analysts in coverage of QNCCF stock.
