The Tottenham Hotspur of the Premier League have discovered a new way of apologizing to fans for a major loss.
Tottenham played its third to last game of the season on Sunday on the road against Newcastle United, a crucial game with the Hotspur battling for a chance to make the top four and qualify for the Champions League. But the Spurs went down by five goals in the first 21 minutes of the game, eventually losing 6-1 and now need a miracle over their final two matches to secure a spot at the top of the table.

But the players came together to give the fans a little reprieve, announcing on Tuesday that they would be refunding the tickets of the Spurs fans who made the trip to St. James’ Park.
“As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. It wasn’t good enough,” the statement read. “We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James’ Park.”
The Spurs players also recognized that the reimbursement “does not change what happened on Sunday.”
According to sports business mogul Joe Pompliano, the Spurs players are expecting to reimburse about 3,000 fans an estimated $38 per ticket. The fans that did make the trip traveled the nearly 300 miles that separates St. James’ Park in Tyne from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
The Spurs play Manchester United, who sit at fourth on the table and six points ahead of them, in their penultimate match of the season on Thursday. They need a win to stay alive in the race for a spot in the Champions League.
