The New England Patriots were going to have to figure out a way to offset the loss of cornerback J. C. Jackson in the offseason. It turns out that option was right in front of them this whole time.
Jonathan Jones has had a stellar season, and even in the loss on Sunday, he played at a high level against the Baltimore Ravens.
He had the highest coverage mark for qualifying corners, per Pro Football Focus. His overall grade was 93.5. He is currenly the top-ranked corner in PFF’s rankings. He has proven to be a lockdown corner and has a 90.4 overall coverage rating, per a report from Dakota Randall of NESN.com.
This is certainly a bounce-back season for Jones, who was hurt in October last year. The Patriots took a risk by relying on in-house cornerback depth for 2022. So far, it has paid off.
It will be intriguing to see if Jones can continue to play at a high level. This has been a rough couple of weeks for the Patriots overall, and Jones’ emergence is certainly a welcome sight for a struggling team.
