'This one will be different': Scottish Premiership club announce exciting documentary

St Johnstone have unveiled a new documentary project in collaboration with multi-Emmy award-winning filmmaker Jamie Doran.

This initiative represents the culmination of Doran's lifelong pursuit to unravel the mystery of Scottish football through the lens of the Perth-based club.

"As die-hard St Johnstone supporters we all know just how special our club is," an announcement read.

"We touched on it in our recent season ticket launch, that first step out the door, the meeting points, the pre-match pints, the stories, the familiar faces, the not-so familiar faces, the highs, the lows but more than anything the pride in pulling on the colours of St Johnstone Football Club. It is a powerful relationship, an addiction that is difficult to describe. But that is what makes our story a special one to tell.

"From our men’s first team, youth team, women’s team, McDiarmid Park staff, Saints in the community and most importantly you the fans, this unique documentary project will look to encompass every facet of our loyal and unparalleled football family.

"By working with an experienced documentary film company (Clover Films) and an award-winning filmmaker, who is also a passionate Scottish football fan, we can be confident that the end product will be entertaining and enlightening."

Commenting on the exciting news, Doran said: “Forget Sunderland, Wrexham or any other film series, because this one will be different. I remember too well the freezing, miserable Wednesday nights in Dingwall, Arbroath, Inverness and elsewhere, looking around the grounds in awe of the numbers who had chosen to turn up and support their teams - per capita, many times more than any other country in the world.

"What is it that drives them? That’s what I want to find out. Is it masochistic pain and suffering, utter delusion, or a dream of experiencing that single moment of ecstasy in the company of friends… this is Scottish football in the raw and we want you to be part of it.”

St Johnstone's new owner Adam Webb added: “August 5th will be a thrilling and historic night, celebrating Geoff Brown’s contribution to the club and community and beginning our journey with Jamie Doran and Clover Films to tell the story of Scottish football by exploring the people and traditions of St Johnstone.”
