'This one hurts': Serious knee injury cuts short Prithvi Shaw's Northants' stint

MUMBAI: An injury has again struck Prithvi Shaw at the worst-possible time in the youngster's career. Just when he regained his form with blazing knocks of 244 & 125 not out for Northamptonshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup, Shaw has been hit by a bad knee injury that has cruelly cut short his maiden stint in English County cricket.

"He damaged his ACL while fielding in the last match. In fact, he then batted and went on to score a hundred despite the injury. He will be out of action for a couple of months. Right now, he's on crutches, and would be returning to India after a couple of weeks," a source told TOI.

"This one hurts. Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the remainder of his Steelbacks stint," Northamptonshire CCC tweeted on Wednesday. "Prithvi injured his knee while fielding in the fixture against Durham and subsequent scan results received this morning have revealed the injury is worse than initially expected," the Northants said in another tweet.

Bouncing back after an ordinary IPL, the 23-year-old had smashed a 153-ball 244 against Somerset and 125 off 76 balls against Durham in back-to-back games to serve a reminder to India's selectors about his enormous ability.

In November 2018, Shaw was set to play his maiden overseas Test in Australia, before being ruled out of the series after suffering an ankle injury while attempting to take a catch on the deep midwicket boundary in a tour match against the Cricket Australia XI in Sydney.
