ITV morning show This Morning is usually hosted by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, but this Friday, October 14, the pair are having a day off following the show scooping the daytime category award at the National Television Awards, last night.
It's not unusual for Holly and Phil not to present on Fridays and instead, regular duo Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary step in to host the show. Alison was nominated for a National Television Award herself, for the best presenter award, but lost out to Ant and Dec, who scooped the award for the 21st year running.
Back in 2016 and 2017 the presenters, who say they are best friends, partied until the early hours at the NTAs, coming onto the show a little worse for wear and apologised to viewers for turning up for work in the clothes their wore to the awards.
Monday to Thursday hosts, Holly and Phil, came under fire earlier in 2022 when they were accused of skipping the queue to see the Queen lying in state. They and This Morning have released statements insisting they were there in a professional capacity. Fridays are not the only time that Holly and Phil are missing from the show as every year they take a summer break during the school holidays. Different guest presenters come in to cover for the hosts during the summer.
Although This Morning won the award for the best daytime programme there were boos when Holly and Phil went to collect the award. The nominees for the award on Thursday night were This Morning, Loose Women, The Repair Shop, and The Chase.
As This Morning was announced the winner, Phillip was seen to break down in tears before heading to the stage to collect the award. On stage, after accepting the award, Phillip addressed the crowd, saying: "Please don't ever feel like we get complacent." "Thank you so much for everything," Holly added as she addressed the public at home. "You make our show for us, you really do."
The show, which runs on ITV every weekday morning, has won the award every year since 2012.
