This Morning viewers wonder what Craig Doyle's secret is as he reveals age

Viewers were left wondering what Craig Doyle’s secret is as he let slip his real age while presenting This Morning today. The popular Irish TV host has been standing in on the show in the aftermath of Phillip Schofield’s dramatic exit.

Many have called for him to be made permanent host saying his charm made him a natural for daytime television. But watchers were left surprised when Craig mentioned that he is in fact 52 years old.

On Twitter James Barley said: “Enjoying Craig Doyle on the telly but am in shock that he’s 52! Yikes - hope I look half as good when I’m that age!” Phil Hunt was simply stunned: “WHAAAAAT?! Craig Doyle is 52?!”

Rob smith replied: “Omg hes never 52 - I would have said late 30s.” Michael Brock agreed: “Yeah he never seems to age much. Still looks about 30.”

Craig has only been hosting This Morning for two days but fans have already confessed their delight at Phillip Schofield’s replacement, who they think is the “perfect fit”.

Mags said: “@thismorning Surely Craig is a dead cert to get the permanent presenter role. He is absolutely brilliant!”

Craig Doyle has been a hit with viewers presenting This Morning with Holly Willoughby (ITV)

Blossom was a big fan of his, er, presenting skills: “#ThisMorning Tuned in to see the gorgeous Craig Doyle presenting today. He’s a sight for sore eyes.”

Louise McHale on the other hand did not agree: “Please bring back Josie or Alison to be with Holly. Craig constantly Interrupts and tells a story for everything #ThisMorning”

Schofield, 61, resigned from ITV last month and was dropped by his talent agency YMU after admitting to an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.

Holly who was absent from the ITV morning show during the furore, returned to screens on Monday.

Willoughby’s return to the show on Monday was highly anticipated and marked her first on-screen appearance since Schofield left ITV following his revelation of an affair with a younger male colleague. The episode was watched by an average of 839,000 viewers, the highest daily average for the show since the coronation bank holiday on May 8. It is also above the three-month average of 703,000.

The peak audience for Monday’s show – the highest number of viewers watching at any one time – was 1.6 million, nearly double the average for the whole programme. During interviews last week, Schofield told the Sun and the BBC that Willoughby did not know about the “unwise, but not illegal” relationship, and has apologised for lying to her.

Seated next to Josie Gibson, she said: “Firstly, are you OK? I hope so. It feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil. And I imagine that you might have been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on, and full of questions.”

This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
