In a moving display of personal courage and public service, This Morning viewers took to X to praise broadcaster Vanessa Feltz after she bravely underwent a mammogram live on the show. During the program, presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley informed the audience that regular contributor Vanessa would be taking them along as she experienced a mammogram—an essential x-ray procedure used to check for breast cancer.
The live segment quickly sparked an outpouring of support on social media. One fan wrote, “Fair play to Vanessa for doing this, it’s a little uncomfortable (literally for a few seconds) but not painful, and can save your life!”
Another commented, “Well done to Vanessa!!! Love that woman!” A third fan added, “Good on Vanessa for doing this live,” while a fourth remarked, “A big cheer for the great Vanessa Phelps for having a mammogram live on air, brilliant. She’s smiling but it’s a brave thing to do live.” Ben and Cat also praised her on air, describing her actions as “brilliant” for sharing something so personal on television, as reported by the Mirror.
Vanessa Feltz has long been a passionate advocate for cancer awareness, drawing on personal experience to encourage others to be vigilant about their health. She has openly discussed her mother’s battle with cancer—a subject that resonated deeply with viewers. In 2023, Vanessa recounted on Talk TV the painful ordeal her mother endured before succumbing to an aggressive form of endometrial cancer.
She revealed, “My mother was suddenly getting the most tremendous abdominal pain but only sporadically and only sometimes and very unpredictably,” she told Talk TV in 2023.”It was incredibly painful when it happened and she went from doctor to doctor to doctor, specialist to specialist, and they all pretty much did that pat her on the head thing saying, you know, ‘Are you neurotic? Are you looking for attention? Is it the menopause?’ And it turned out to be endometrial cancer and she died at the age of 57.”
In other entertainment news, Vanessa’s ex Ben Ofoedu recently announced his engagement to a new partner after a turbulent breakup. Ben introduced his new partner, Vanessa Brown, on Instagram in January. An insider revealed that she was “completely surprised” by the proposal.
Describing the moment: “Vanessa was completely surprised. They were walking through the park, reminiscing about Elf, when Ben suddenly proposed. It was so heartfelt — happy tears, laughter, and, of course, an immediate ‘yes!’”
Adding to the day’s live television moments, Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid halted the show to issue a correction about an incorrect golf handicap for Ben Shephard. Laughing, the presenter said: “Ben Shephard has got in touch. ‘I expect a correction. I play golf off seven, not 15 – which has taken a lot of pain and tears and swearing. I am fuming downstairs downstairs,’ says Ben.” Later, while on the GMB sofa, Lorraine Kelly asked, “Was that when you were talking to Anton Du Beke?” To which Richard replied, “Yes. Don’t sue us.”
Vanessa Feltz’s live demonstration not only demystifies a vital health screening but also reinforces the importance of early detection. Her bravery has resonated with viewers, providing inspiration and a powerful reminder that looking after one’s health can truly save lives.
