Thursday’s This Morning got off to a messy start as viewers were left cringing over a chaotic cooking segment featuring chef Rosemary Shrager. Hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary welcomed the 74-year-old chef to the kitchen to whip up an Italian chocolate, almond, and orange Easter cake. But from the get-go, things didn’t quite go to plan.
Despite promising, “It is not going to be chaos today,” Rosemary accidentally overboiled something before the cake had even begun. Alison and Dermot laughed it off, but viewers weren’t quite as forgiving, reported Wales Online.
As Rosemary rushed through the steps at lightning speed, social media lit up with complaints. “This is chaotic,” one person posted. Another called it an “absolute car crash,” while someone else joked, “Is this cake a speed challenge? She’s frantic and I’m exhausted!”
One viewer even tweeted: “She’s out of breath and the cake’s not even ready yet.” The confusion over ingredients didn’t help either, as Dermot had to stop her mid-sentence to ask what she was using. At one point, she mistakenly said egg yolks when she meant egg whites, and Alison gently corrected her.
Things didn’t calm down much as the segment rolled on, and the audience at home seemed more flustered than inspired by the baking instructions. Comments like “This cook is insufferable” and “She needs to calm down lol” were doing the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), and the general consensus was that the segment was more exhausting than educational.
Despite the live mishaps, Rosemary didn’t leave the studio after the cake. Later in the show, she returned for a phone-in segment to help viewers with their Easter food dilemmas.
This time, she gave advice on everything from how to stop sponge cakes from dipping in the middle to citrus-free alternatives and healthy treats for kids. That segment fared a little better, with viewers appreciating her kitchen knowledge, but the earlier chaos had already stolen the spotlight.
While Alison and Dermot took it all in good humour, viewers weren’t quite on board with the fast-paced baking frenzy. Let’s just say this wasn’t the relaxing mid-morning cook-along people were expecting.
