This Morning viewers say same thing as footballer Mason Mount gives first TV interview

This Morning viewers were left with similar reactions on Wednesday as Mason Mount appeared on the ITV daytime show for his first television interview.

The Chelsea midfielder sat down with co-hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby to talk about his viral TikTok videos and performance on the pitch.

However, as the conversation got underway several This Morning viewers were distracted by Mason’s wardrobe choice for the sit-down interview as he appeared donning a striped blue and yellow sweatshirt.

Several viewers said the look reminded them of rugby shirts they had worn at school, with one commenting on Twitter : “Why is he wearing my school rugby shirt,” as a second wrote: “My kids PE top was exactly the same as what Mason Mount is wearing.”

Mason appeared on the show in the wake of a string of England losses, including a 4-0 defeat against Hungary last night, which one viewer referenced, writing: “Mason looks like his mum dressed him and cut his hair lol the first question should be “judging by the pathetic performance yesterday, don't England want to play at the next World Cup?””

Another commented: “Mason Mount on This Morning looking like a 90s geography teacher,” as another asked: “Is Mason dressed as a Broom Cupboard kids presenter in honour of Phil?”

However, some eagle-eyed viewers believed the jumper could be a tribute to the Ukrainian flag, amid the ongoing war in the country following the Russian invasion.

Given the similar colour scheme, one fan asked: “Is that meant to be a Ukrainian flag top?” as another tweeted: “Wearing a Ukraine flag.”

Mason, who is part of the England squad in the running for the World Cup later this year, touched on the team’s near-success last year in the Euros.

England made it to the final, but the team’s bid to end their 55-year wait for a major trophy ended in a penalty shootout defeat to Italy, who claimed the Euro 2020 crown at Wembley.

Phillip said: “Last summer you united the nation. We were all there, even though I've said this on here before, I’m not a massive football follower.

“However, for all of us, even people who don’t follow it passionately on a weekly basis, we all get behind the team.”

Phillip then asked Mason: “Do you feel that lifting you up or do you try to get into a bubble?”

Mason said the England team “feel it massively”, despite often being in a bubble and trying to “focus on games”.

He said: “The way everyone got together during the Euros, when you see videos of all the fans, all the beers flying and everyone’s together enjoying it and having fun.

“They’re the moments that make you proud. We want to make the nation proud and keep moving forward.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
