This Morning viewers were left "in tears" as Thursday's edition of the daytime show came to a close with a moving tribute to the late Queen. It comes as a slightly shorter version of the programme was broadcast than usual, as ITV continues to provide news coverage of the unfolding historic events following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The ITV flagship programme was missing from the TV schedules last Friday (September 9), following Her Majesty's passing on September 8, aged 96. But this week it has returned to our screens, with presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield at the helm.
On Thursday, the show continued to remember the late monarch with members of the public ringing in with their memories of the Queen and the now King Charles III. The presenters also welcomed Katherine Jenkins and Sir Trevor McDonald to the sofa to talk about their encounters with the royal family throughout the years, the Manchester Evening News reports.
But as the programme drew to a close, Holly advised viewers that This Morning would be "off air" on Friday as ITV will be broadcasting "special coverage" from the King's visit to Wales. She confirmed they will return to screens on Tuesday (September 20), where they will "reflect" on Her Majesty's state funeral taking place on Monday.
Phil then added: "So there is just one thing left to say, thank you Ma'am. We'll leave you with some fitting lyrics from one of our guest's today, Katherine Jenkins."
A number of moments filmed of Queen Elizabeth's 70-year reign then showed on the screen, whilst a rendition of 'Time to Say Goodbye' played in the background, sang by Katherine. Viewers tuning in at home were left moved by the nod to the late Queen, and were quick to take to Twitter.
Leeanne tweeted: "The goodbye segment of the Queen at the end of @thismorning has me in tears #QueenElizabethII #ThisMorning." Trevor Campbell added: "Wow @thismorning #ThisMorning just made me cry over the memories of #QueenElizabethII."
Stuart Davis wrote: "@thismorning what a way to end the show beautiful photos followed by a beautiful song. #ThisMorning #TheQueen." Robyn added: "Lovely montage that was #ThisMorning #QueenElizabethII."
This Morning usually airs weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub from 10am but due to a change in schedules in wake of Her Majesty's funeral on Monday, the daytime show will now return on Tuesday, September 20.
