This Morning viewers criticise ‘insulting’ cooking segment after Gino uses £100 truffle

ITV ’s This Morning has once again come under fire from viewers for failing to reflect the pressures of the cost of living crisis, with a recent cooking demonstration attracting criticism on the subject.

Celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo joined hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby to cook up a pasta dish in the This Morning kitchen on Tuesday’s show . But the segment sparked a backlash after Gino included a £100 truffle in the recipe.

The star explained that it was his son’s idea to add in the luxury ingredient, and joked that the cost would be taken out of Holly and Phil’s paychecks. But despite the addition of the truffle bumping the price of the meal up to a three-figure sum, the pasta was described as a “perfect midweek dinner”, The Mirror reports .

The expensive dish was not well received by some viewers, who took to social media to air their frustration at the segment. “Nice to see This Morning is in touch with the cost of living crisis… currently cooking with one ingredient that’s £100 to £150,” one person wrote on Twitter.

Another fumed: “Tone deaf to what’s going on in the country at the moment. White truffle. Come on guys, at least pretend to care.”

“A cost of living crisis and This Morning is cooking with truffle costing £100/£150. Seriously?” a third viewer asked. “Out of touch. You poor people can use essence or extract!”

Others called on the show to demonstrate how to make meals without breaking the bank, given the current situation for many in the UK. “For goodness sake, please use your cooking slot to produce healthy meals on a budget which I’m sure your viewers are crying out for,” one viewer Tweeted.

They added: “It’s not rocket science. Gino’s recipe with truffle was just insulting. Furious.”
