This Morning viewers completely fail to realise how brilliant Leeds' 20p shop is

One of Leeds hidden gems was featured on This Morning today - but disappointingly, viewers failed to see how brilliant it is.

This Morning viewers slammed The 20p Shop in Leeds as 'selling a load of tat' but shoppers haven't found this to be the case at all.

Four years ago Steve Nelson opened The 20p Shop, in Kirkgate, Otley, which sells all sorts of items including clothes, crockery, DVDs, food, books, vinyl and more. The shop is the only one of its kind and it manages to attract customers from all over the country.

Steve runs the shop with the help of volunteers including his friend Sue, Steve’s sister Angie and his son Stuart. Despite the huge display of the shop's name, people often ask staff if everything really is only 20p.

“We’re not a charity,” market trader Steve said to LeedsLive . “Some people don’t get it, they believe you have to spend a fortune to make money but we’ve gone against the grain.

The ITV breakfast show chatted to owner Steve Nelson's son Stuart, working out the shop's incredibly cheap business model. Speaking to Stuart, Holly said: "It's incredibly cheap for some of the things you're selling, how are you doing it?"

Stuart explained: "Well we try our best to help the local community that was the main reason behind the shop. Not everything needs to cost a fortune and with the current state of the world and everything going on, the cost of living going up, we thought why not make something cheap and cheerful."

Phillip asked: "So do you actually make money out of it, is it a business model that works?" Stuart answered, sharing: "It works, like every other small business, it's a struggle at the moment but we're doing our best to stay afloat and help everyone out on the way round."

Not all viewers were convinced with many taking to Twitter to express their thoughts. @Miss_Vix88 joked: "20p shop in Yorkshire something else to make us look tight. Despite what people say we’re not tight in Yorkshire believe it or not lol #ThisMorning."

@Itt39354118 added: "When you think you couldn't get cheaper than £land along come's a 20p shop. #thismorning"

Not all viewers were keen on the products on offer, with @SmokeyToes76 continuing: "What a load of tat for £1 #thismorning" @JoeStutter said: "This shop is pure tat, reminds me of hyper value shops #ThisMorning."
