A heartbreaking story of a man who lost his late wife's ashes when his house burned down amid the recent heatwave was shared by his daughter on This Morning earlier today.
The latest episode of the ITV show saw viewer Emma, from Norfolk, call in about her father's experience – with her seeking advice on how to support him through the ordeal.
She said on the show: "My dad lost his house in the bad fires we had. He's 75 and he's basically lost everything. His wife's ashes were actually in the house. He's just lost everything."
The story prompted sympathy from Alison Hammond, 47, and Dermot O'Leary, 49, as well as agony aunt Deidre Sanders, 77 – who was on hand to give some guidance.
Deidre responded to the call for advice by encouraging: "Don't rush anything. It's normal for him to be in shock." She warned against trying to get him to "jolly" through it.
She instead promoted creating a "calm atmosphere around him" and suggested that Emma make sure he's taken care of –particularly that he's eating and drinking.
"When we're in shock it can cause suppress appetite and can suppress normal instinct, [so] you can cause yourself further problems," the agony aunt commented.

During the phone-in, Emma said her father lived alone at the property, adding: "His wife she died three years ago and the ashes were still in the house when it went up."
It was explained to her that he could find another way to remember his late wife, with presenter Dermot suggested planting a rose bush in her memory, for example.
She was also encouraged to hug her father and assure him that he has support, though Emma said on the show: "It's so hard because every time I see him he starts to cry."
Towards the end of the discussion, Alison brought some optimism, saying: "I'm just so glad he's okay. Like the house, we can rebuild the house but he's alive. He's still with you."
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am.
