Philip Schofield kicked off his 60th birthday celebrations early on Thursday after his This Morning colleagues pulled out all of the stops to surprise him a day early.

The TV presenter doesn’t officially hit the milestone age until Friday, but he only hosts the ITV daytime show between Monday to Thursday.

Schofield revealed on Instagram Stories how the corridors of the backstage area had been decked out in silver and gold balloons.

Even more balloons carpeted the room where he was getting his makeup applied before Thursday’s show began.

A chocolate cake featuring a single lit candle was brought in before a lively rendition of Happy Birthday commenced.

The singalong was led by Schofield’s co-host Holly Willoughby, who was excitedly capturing it all on her phone.

The broadcaster was clearly overcome, but the surprises didn’t stop there as he was further spoiled with three packets of his favourite Ginger Nuts biscuits, and two bottles of Pol Roger Champagne.

At £440 a pop, they should help to wash the cake down and biscuits nicely.

Other clips also showed off his stack of presents waiting to be unwrapped along with cards.

One cheeky cards read: “Someone call nine wine wine”.

While another said: “Time doesn't change you”.

The delighted birthday boy wrote: “@Thismorning have gone early on my birthday, thanks guys”.

The TV favourite has yet to reveal how he will be spending his actual big day.

The father-of-two tested positive for Covid two days after he stepped out in London to celebrate youngest daughter Ruby’s 26th birthday in January.

It was an action-packed evening, including a meal at Circo Populaire and drinks at Soho House.

They also took in a performance of West End musical Les Miserables.
