This Morning star under fire as fans demand apology for 'horrific' joke

Viewers of ITV's This Morning have called for presenter Cat Deeley to apologise after making a "horrific" joke on air.

The incident took place on Monday, June 17 when hosts Deeley and Ben Shephard were welcoming viewers back from the advert break.

The presenters were getting ready to chat to pop singer Meghan Trainor who sat on the sofa to discuss her latest single, life as a working mum and her husband, Daryl Sabara.

Getting in the mood to welcome the singer, Trainor's hit song All About That Bass was being played as the This Morning presenter duo enjoyed a dance.

However, what was a light-hearted moment quickly became shocking when Deeley made a "cruel" joke.

Deeley was dancing to the song when Shephard looked at her with a judging and confused look.

Commenting on his look, Deeley said: "Nothing to see here," continuing to dance.

Shephard replied with: "You alright? Ok," as she stopped dancing and said: "Yeah I’m fine. Just having a seizure. Welcome back.”

The This Morning pair moved on from the joke, neither mentioning the comments made by Deeley.

While the two moved on without commenting on the joke, viewers at home did not.

Deeley's comments sparked the attention of the charity Epilepsy Society, as they took to X, formerly Twitter to share: "Seizures are no laughing matter for people with #epilepsy @catdeeley.

"Please do better and educated yourselves about this difficult and poorly understood condition, @thismorning."

Others were quick to support the charity as one X user commented: "I've had seizures for many years and something said like she did should be apologised for. I certainly didn't like it at all. If she had seizures, she wouldn't be saying anything like that."

Another This Morning viewer called for Deeley to apologise: "Waiting for an apology@catdeeley. That’s disgusting that you made a joke of something that we fight every single day."

ITV, This Morning and Cat Deeley have not commented on the incident at the time of writing.
